"A Standard in Plant Physiology! – Plant Physiology by Taiz and Zeiger is a classic book which presents the basics of the field in a splendid and comprehensive manner. The current edition is a continuation of the original text I had used in the early 1990s. The text is a wonderful blend of plant structure and function with the fundamentals of the physiological processes in plants. The level of detail is more than adequate for any advanced undergraduate course and the text also represents an excellent reference source for those throughout their careers.

The text is divided into three major sections:
• Section 1 deals with transport and translocation. This is the physical basis for how plants manage to move nutrients from the soil to the growing cells of the plant.
• Section 2 deals with the fundamental biochemistry of the plant. All the classic cycles are dealt with and there are excellent discussions of protein interactions and the key elements of plant biochemistry.
• Section 3 deals with growth and development. I especially like Chapter 14 which introduces plant genetic pathways.

This is an update of the 4th Edition and is superbly done. For those who are to work in botany in the coming generations this materials will become essential, and this chapter is well placed and can and should be expanded as editions progress and perhaps into a separate book. It would be a longed for stand-alone entity. I see dozens like this in human genomics but paucity in botanical areas.
• The remainder of the section deals with many of the classic issues of auxins, gibberellins, cytokines, ethylene, abscisic acid and flowering.
• This text is an excellent source for any solid course on plant physiology and it represents the benchmark for which many others may be judged."
